Sara
Edwards, M.D. Dr. Sara
Edwards attended the University
of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois,
where she studied biology and
chemistry. She attended
Northwestern University Medical
School in Chicago, Illinois,
where she graduated with honors
as a member of the Alpha Omega
Alpha Honor Society. She then
completed a general surgery
internship and orthopaedic
surgery residency at
Northwestern University.
Additionally, Dr. Edwards
completed a fellowship in
shoulder, elbow and sports
medicine surgery with the
renowned surgeon Dr. Louis
Bigliani at Columbia University
in New York.
As a sports medicine and upper
extremity reconstruction
specialists, Dr. Edwards enjoys
helping her patients return to
normal function and resume their
active lifestyles. Her special
interests include adult and
adolescent sports medicine,
complex and revision
arthroscopic surgery, shoulder
and elbow reconstruction, and
general orthopaedics. She has
authored several book chapters
on rotator cuff disease,
subacromial impingement in
overhead athletes, mini-incision
total shoulder arthroplasty, and
multidirectional instability.
As well she has presented her
research at national and
international meetings and
published in international
orthopaedic journals. While in
residency, she participated in
care of athletes from the
Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears,
Chicago Blackhawks, Northwestern
University and the Joffrey
Ballet. During her
fellowship, she served as an
assistant team physician for the
Columbia University football
team. She is presently a member
of the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons and
California Orthopaedic
Association. Dr. Edwards is
currently an assistant team
physician at the University of
California, Berkeley.
In her leisure time, Dr. Edwards
enjoys running, golf and skiing.
